Future economists visited FAS to learn about importance of tariff regulation
On 23 May 2016, students of economics at RUDN University (the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia) fulfilled the cycle of career-orientation tours in the 2015-2016 academic year.
The last meeting with students before the spring exam session was with the Head of the Unit of Prejudicial Dispute Settlement and Tariff Disagreements, of the Department of Regional Tariff Regulation, Andrey Gromov. He talked with the future economists about an important element of antimonopoly regulation – tariffs and pricing, work with natural monopolies, tariff-setting, their purpose and economic rationale, industries where tariff regulation plays an especially important role: utilities, electric power industry, communications, transport, etc, and explained everything about the tariff growth and its underlying causes.
Students learned about the specifics of the current tariff-regulation model in water supply and drainage, characteristics of the transition to long-term tariff planning and FAS expected approaches to regulating the housing-and-utilities sector.
The discussion on tariff regulation gradually shifted to the possibilities of on-the-job-training and pre-graduation internship with FAS.
“A vivid student interest always makes us happy and gives hope for continuity. Our staff is ready to share knowledge and transfer the accumulated experience to young people, raising a new generation of antimonopoly workers”, said Deputy Head of FAS Administrative Service Department, Elena Kosyanchuk.
