The Antimonopoly Service will set tariffs for radioactive waste disposal
FAS is assigned new tariff regulation powers.
A relevant Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation (1) comes into force on 1 January 2017.
Radioactive waste disposal falls in activities of natural monopolies. Since the antimonopoly body is authorized to control operations of natural monopolies and sets the relevant tariffs, the Government of the Russian Federation decided to transfer such powers to FAS.
Currently this function is exercised by the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Natural Resources and the Environment.
“We expect to enhance transparency of determining these tariffs and improve regulatory efficiency, as it is already happening in the fields transferred under FAS regulation after the Federal Tariff Service was abolished”, said Deputy Head of FAS Vitaly Korolev.
