Competition policy events in the course of APEC Forum in Vietnam
On 21 - 26 February 2017, a FAS delegation was taking part at the meetings of senior executives at the “Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation” Forum (APEC). This year Vietnam that chairs the Forum has received 21 economies of the Asian-Pacific region.
The Forum included a workshop on E\economic aspects of antimonopoly policy, organized by Vietnam Central Institute of Economic Management. Executives of the competition authorities from APEC economies studied the issues of economic analysis in investigating cases and discussed the key areas for further cooperation.
Another event was a workshop on the “Powers of an antimonopoly authority in investigations”, organized by Peru antimonopoly body. The purpose of the workshop was to exchange information and experience in investigations by the antimonopoly bodies of violations of the antimonopoly law; particularly, carrying out inspections as an important stage of an antimonopoly investigation, generating evidence of violations.
The final competition event was a session of APEC Competition Policy Working Group that discussed the implemented and future projects in the field of competition under the APEC aegis. Representatives of APEC competition authorities, including FAS, gave reports on the latest changes in the national competition policy and law.
Head of FAS Department for International Economic Cooperation, Lesya Davydova, commented on participation of FAS representatives in the above events: “Competition authorities of APEC economies are becoming increasingly active participants of international events in the field of competition law and policy. We consider developing cooperation with APEC economies a very important direction of FAS international cooperation. Hopefully, the experience of advancing Russian antimonopoly law will be interesting and useful for our Asian-Pacific colleagues”.
