Antimonopoly Service decreased tariffs for electric power in the Murmansk region
The costs of electric power dropped down by 2.5 times in technologically isolated villages in the region
In December 2016 FAS approved the decision of the Tariff Regulation Committee of the Murmansk region to reduce the electric power tariff for consumers in technological isolated villages – Chavan’ga, Chapoma, Tetrino and Pyalitsa – in the Tersky District of the Murmansk region. The costs of electric power for consumers not classified under the “population” category are reduced from 20.53 RUB/kWh tо 7.95 RUB/kWh.
Decreasing the tariff became possible due to transfer of eclectic power supply in rural settlements in the Tersky District to sources of wind-and-solar power generation. Earlier electric power supply for consumer was provided only using diesel electric power stations and generator units.
Dmitry Vasiliev, Head of FAS Department for Regulating Electric Power Industry pointed out: “As a result of tariff reduction, saving of consumer funds for electric power payment will reach around 1.5 million RUB. This decision will have a significant effect upon financial-and-economic activities of all companies and organizations in the Tersky District and create conditions for further development of business in remote villages in the Murmansk region”.
He added: “In the territories where costs of electric power generation on traditional power sources are more expensive, it is expedient to use renewable energy sources as widely as possible. In particular, such decisions are implemented in the subjects of the Far East Federal District, especially in the northern areas, for instance, Yakutia”.
