FAS and Mongolia Competition Authority signed a Memorandum on Cooperation
The objective of the Memorandum is to strengthen cooperation between Russia and Mongolia in the filed of competition policy
On 22 March 2017, Head of FAS Igor Artemiev had a meeting with a delegation of Mongolia Fair Competition and Consumer Protection Authority* led by its Chairman, Lkhagva Byambasuren.
Head of FAS thanked the Head of Mongolia Competition Authority for the interest and involvement in the activities of the International Working Group for studying competition in the pharmaceutical sector on 21 March 2017 in Moscow.
He pointed out that involvement in the efforts of International Working Groups is one of the most essential elements of FAS international cooperation. Apart from the Working Group on Pharmaceuticals, successful efforts are undertaken towards reducing roaming prices and studying competition on the market of informational technologies under the frame of the International Working Group on developing competition in informational-and-communications technologies.
Igor Artemiev expressed hope for continuing productive cooperation and informed Mongolian colleagues on possible means of interaction, including cross-border areas between our countries.
He invited representatives of Mongolia Competition Authority to take part in annual training for representatives of competition authorities of foreign countries at FAS Centre for Education and Methodics in Kazan. The next training is scheduled for April.
In his turn, Lkhagva Byambasuren outlined the history and the powers of Mongolia Competition Authority, describing in detail, which sectors of the economy have priority for the regulator, and stated their intention to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Russia to ensure efficient, transparent and non-discriminatory enforcement of the antimonopoly law.
The parties signed a Memorandum on Cooperation in the field of competition policy.
“Signing the Memorandum is a positive step towards developing relations between our countries. It will be the basis for interactions in various formats, particularly exchanging informational materials on the issues of antimonopoly policy, conducting joint investigations and considering cases of breaching the antimonopoly law”, explained Igor Artemiev.
* An independent authorized body that exercised the functions of supervising observance of the law on competition (including public procurement). Head of Mongolia Competition Authority is appointed / dismissed by the Mongolian Government. The work of the Competition Authority is coordinated by First Deputy Chairman of the Mongolian Government.
The first Law on competition protection was passed in 1993. 12 years ago, in 2005 the first Mongolia Competition Authority was formed.
