UNCTAD supports FAS is promoting an idea of adopting the Toolkit on cooperation between competition authorities of foreign countries
FAS informed UNCTAD on drafting the Toolkit on international cooperation between competition authorities to counter restrictive business practices of large transnational corporations
During the Annual Conference of the International Competition Network (ICN), in Porto (Portugal) the FAS delegation led by Deputy Head of FAS Andrey Tsyganov held talks with Head of UNCTAD Competition and Consumer Policies Branch, Teresa Moreira.
The parties discussed preparation to the Round Table on “Strengthening international cooperation in investigating cross-border cases: tools and procedures” that will take place at the 16th session of the UNCTAD Intergovernmental Group of Experts (IGE) on competition policy (5-7 July, Geneva, Switzerland). The item was put on the agenda of the 16th session of IGE UNCTAD upon a FAS initiative.
Andrey Tsyganov informed Ms. Moreira on drafting the Toolkit on international cooperation between competition authorities to counter restrictive business practices of large transnational corporations, which can be presented to UN member-states at the forthcoming session of IGE UNCTAD and further on adopted by UNCTAD as an appendix to the UN Set of Multilaterally Agreed Equitable Principles and Rules for the Control over Restrictive Business Practices.
Finally Andrey Tsyganov invited Ms. Moreira to take part in the annual international event – “Competition Week in Russia” on 18 - 21 September 2017 in Veliky Novgorod.
Head of FAS Department for International Economic Cooperation, Lesya Davydova commented the outcome of the meeting: “UNCTAD is an especially important platform for FAS since here interaction between competition authorities takes place in a global format. For long time cooperation between FAS and UNCTAD has been based on mutual understanding and trust. We are glad that UNCTAD supports us in promoting the idea of adopting a global Toolkit on cooperation between competition authorities of foreign countries”.
