Case against a cartel that used auction robots
FAS opened a case upon signs of “digital” collusion at medical auctions
FAS suspects that bidders at procurement for supplies of expendables for coronary angiography and stenting, “VALERIA” Ltd. and “Egmed” Ltd. used special software, tuned to automatically maintain the maximum price at the auctions; the total sum of initial prices exceeded 145 million RUB.
Head of FAS Anti-Cartel Department, Andrey Tenishev pointed out: “Currently FAS officers are ascertaining details of collusion between companies reached using software tools”.
The case is opened under Article 11 of the federal Law “On Protection of Competition”.
Stats-Secretary Deputy Head of FAS concluded: “In the digital economy FAS is facing new challenges related to concluding and implementing anticompetitive agreements using new technologies, and FAS has all means to efficient withstand them”.
