RUSSIAN PROPOSAL ON JOINING THE WTO AGREEMENT ON GOVERNMENT PROCUREMENT WILL BE RENEWED
Representatives of Russia arrived to this conclusion during WTO “Public Procurement Week”
The “Public Procurement Week” of the World Trade Organization took place on 24 - 28 June 2018 in Geneva (Switzerland). Ekaterina Nabatova, Deputy Head of FAS Public Procurement Department took part in the event as a member of the Russian delegation.
25 and 26 June were devoted to bilateral meetings between delegations of the EU,
Liechtenstein, Norway, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the US. The participants considered an offer of the Russian Federation for joining WTO Agreement on Public Procurement.
During consultations with foreign delegations, representatives of the Russian Federation informed their foreign colleagues about the public procurement system in Russia and answered their questions. The speakers pointed out that “the offer is based on expediency and acceptability of the joining conditions for Russia in view of Russian national interests”.
On 27 June 2018, WTO Public Procurement Committee discussed Russia joining the Agreement on the basis of its initial offer on market entry.
As a result of the meetings, representatives of the Russian Federation informed Committee about the necessity to renew the offer on joining WTO Agreement on Public Procurement due to changes in the administrative sector.
The next WTO “Public Procurement Week” is scheduled on 15-17 October 2018. FAS representatives also are going to take part in it.
