FAS WILL ANALYSE THE TAXI AGGREGATORS MARKET IN DETAIL
Experts discussed methods of such analysis at FAS Market Analysis Commission
On 11 March 2019, experts of Market Analysis Commission discussed draft guidelines for analyzing the state of competition on the taxi aggregators market.
Head of FAS Department for Regulating Communications and Information Technologies, Elena Zaeva, said: “The purpose of analysis is to study the trends in this field which is very important in the context of the growing market. In particular, we intend to evaluate the consequences of mergers in the market”.
A market participant survey showed that administrative entry barriers are easily surmountable. It means that a company registered and operating in a particular town can enter the taxi aggregator market in another region.
At the same time, it is important to understand that in Russia, apart from big market players, there are a lot of taxi aggregators operating within separate localities.
It is expected that FAS regional Offices will ascertain the market scope and shares of taxi aggregators in the regions based on the forms and questionnaires filled in by taxi aggregators.
Following the meeting, experts concluded that there is a need to study pricing strategies used by various taxi aggregators.
FAS plans to present the survey findings in QIII 2019.
Commission Chairman, Deputy Head of FAS Andrey Tsyganov, commented: “The taxi aggregators market is a two-sided market. It ensured cooperation between passengers, on the one side, and the carriers, on the other side, using special platform solutions. With this example, the Commission will look into classical approaches to market analysis for studying digital multi-sided markets”.
