ARTEM MOLCHANOV: THERE ARE ONLY TWO OFFICIAL STANDARDS IN THE FIELD OF LEGAL STUDIES
The significance of legal science in general and legal profession is increasing. The regulatory framework in this filed comprises a number of documents. The importance of devising and applying professional standards in law were discussed on 3 April 2019 at VI Moscow Legal Forum (XVI Kutafin Readings). Head of FAS Legal Department, Artem Molchanov took part in the event.
He described the specifics of studying competition law in Russian universities and emphasized the significance of developing competition law as a science to shape efficient competition policy.
“The transition of the Russian Federation to market relations resulted in considerable changes in Russian legal system, particularly, determined emergence of the antimonopoly law. Understanding the specifics of legal regulation of competition is the key to successful operations of any organizations”, saidArtem Molchanov.
He informed that the Ministry of Education and Science included “Competition Law” in the list of academic specializations on which academic degrees are awarded.
“It accelerated development of new research schools in competition law. In the near future we expect several PhDs on antimonopoly law”, added Artem Molchanov.
At the Round Table, participants reached an opinion that using professional standards for law specialists will ensure clear regulation of particular staff obligations and form understanding of work nuances and subtleties for students of relevant specialization.
There are only two approved standards in the legal field: “forensic investigator” and “competition law specialist”. Establishing them was required, first of all, by the workforce market which is constantly developing and updating requirements to professional skills and competences for lawyers”, concludedArtem Molchanov.
