THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE FAS RUSSIA TO TAKE PART IN THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION NETWORK

September 14, 2020 marked the start of the Annual Conference of the International Competition Network, which in 2020 is held online for the first time ever.

This year, the leitmotif of the Conference is the protection and development of competition in the digital age. This topic will be disclosed within the framework of the webinars of each ICN Working Group. Thus, the themes of the plenary meeting of the ICN Advocacy Working Group will be “Competition Advocacy in the Digital Age”, the Agency Effectiveness Working Group - “Digital Strategy of Competition Agencies”, the Merger Working Group - “Digital Mergers”, the Unilateral Conduct Working Group - “Unilateral Conduct Remedies” and the Cartel Working Group -“ Big Data and Cartelization”.

The Conference was opened by a plenary session of the Advocacy Working Group, which previously was co-chaired by the FAS Russia for a long time.

During the session, the participants discussed issues and features of advocating competition in the digital age. Within the session, the panelists considered the objectives and reasons for their advocacy efforts in digital markets, the advocacy strategies and tools used. Besides, as a separate issue for the discussion, the participants noted the differences between the advocacy strategies and approaches used for digital markets as compared to other advocacy efforts, and the methods used to monitor and assess their advocacy efforts in digital markets.

*The Annual Conference of the International Competition Network (ICN) will be held on September 14-17, 2020. Due to the spread of the coronavirus infection COVID-19, this year the event will be transitioned to a virtual conference. The Conference is one of the largest event for the competition authorities, experts, lawyers, as well as representatives of business and scientific community. It has been held since 2002 attracting more and more participants every year.
