FAS INITIATED A CASE AGAINST TELE2

11-02-2021 | 10:12

The telecom operator has once again increased tariffs for its subscribers

Since January 1, 2021, T2 Mobile LLC has increased the cost of cellular services for more than 12 million of its individual subscribers by an average of 13 %, justifying the boost by rising costs.

The FAS Russia continues to receive a large number of applications from citizens, Tele2 subscribers, about changes in the cost of communication services.

Raising tariffs in the absence of technological, economic and other justification infringes  the interests of consumers.

The authority initiated a case against T2 Mobile LLC for violation of antimonopoly law1.

It will be recalled that FAS Russia monitors prices for the provision of communication services on an ongoing basis.

Since May 12, 2020, the FAS Russia has already recognized the previous increase in tariffs by T2 Mobile LLC as economically unjustified and issued an order to the company to bring tariffs to the level in force before the offense was committed.

The telecom operator has not yet complied with this order of the antimonopoly authority and is challenging it in court.

1 On the grounds of violation of paragraph 1 of part 1 of Article 10 of the Law on Protection of Competition, according to which actions (inaction) of a dominant economic entity are prohibited, which result or can result in prevention, restriction or elimination of competition and (or) infringement of the interests of other persons (economic entities) in the field of entrepreneurial activity or an uncertain range of consumers, including the establishment, maintenance of a monopolistically high or monopolistically low price of goods.
