PLAYING THE REGULATOR?

FAS once again invites guests after the school and university vacations.

On 15 February 2018 FAS was visited by high-form pupils of Moscow lyceum who are considered what career path to choose.

Staff of FAS PR Department organized a tour, demonstrated some videos at FAS Community Liaison Office, which described the main areas of the work of the Antimonopoly Service, outlined the history of antimonopoly regulation in Russia and explained the tasks that the antimonopoly authority has to deal with on a daily basis.

To make sure that an account about FAS everyday life will be remembered, FAS staff gave young people an opportunity to try themselves in the roles of the regulator, business and an NGO. They were given a task – reduce electric power tariffs in Mtsensk, “Ossia” Republic. The fight for tariff-reduction was quite serious! They pupils actively put forward proposals for business, the regulator, the sales company and even for the governor, they made decisions of which they were proud of or had to feel sorry at the end of the game.

In view of the lyceum teachers who accompanied the pupils, the children enjoyed the game very much. The teachers believe that it will give a significant positive experience for the schoolchildren, enabling them to mature quickly, undertake responsibility, determine their civic position and evaluate the role of the antimonopoly body in developing and protecting competitive environment.

Head of FAS PR Department Irina Kashunina pointed out: “School tours to the antimonopoly authority have become a tradition. For us it is important in terms of competition advocacy. Today’s schoolchildren will tomorrow become lawyers, economists, businessmen, and perhaps, even join the Antimonopoly Service. It is important that they understand already from school-days what does it mean – competition, why the laws and fair competition rules should be observed”.
