FAS OPENED A CASE AGAINST RUSSIAN UNIT OF “SAMSUNG”
The Antimonopoly Service suspects “Samsung” of coordinated pricing
FAS initiated proceedings against “Samsung Electronics RUS Company” (a Russian unit of “Samsung”) upon signs of coordinating prices for smartphones and tablets*.
In 2018, the competition authority carried out an unscheduled inspection of “Samsung Electronics RUS Company” Ltd. Based on the results of an analysis of the obtained information, FAS exposed signs of violating Part 5 Article 11 of the Federal Law “On Protection of Competition” by “Samsung Electronics RUS Company” – coordinating economic activity of Samsung resellers that led to fixing and maintaining prices for some smartphones and tablets.
“In recent years, FAS has repeatedly exposed violations of the antimonopoly law on the market of smartphone sales. Cases against “Apple” and “LG” are some examples. As those cases showed, unlawful coordination of economic activity is typical for retail markets of household appliances”, pointed out Stats-Secretary, Deputy Head of FAS Andrey Tsarikovskiy. “FAS exercises systemic control over compliance with the antimonopoly law on these markets”.
