FAS IS STRENGTHENING COOPERATION WITH INDIAN COMPETITION AUTHORITY

On 18 February 2019, Deputy Head of FAS, Andrey Tsyganov held bilateral talks with Chairperson of India Competition Commission, Mr. Ashok Kumar Gupta

He congratulated Mr. Ashok Kumar Gupta with the appointment as Chairperson of India Competition Commission and informed that one of the main joint events in 2019 will be the VI BRICS Competition Conference in Moscow on 16 - 19 September 2019.

The Conference will include a meeting of BRICS Working Group on car manufacturing, co-chaired by India Competition Commission. Discussing the draft of a Joint Statement of the Conference that will be signed by Head of BRICS Competition Authority was another important item on the agenda.

Deputy Head of FAS discussed with his foreign colleague the time –schedule of other joint events planned in 2019 and promoting the FAS initiative at UNCTAD.

“We find it necessary to make amendments to the UN Competition Set because formalizing practice-oriented tools and mechanisms of cooperation are crucially important for developing countries that are not members of ICN and OECD. Formalizing the cooperation mechanisms at a UN platform will also become an additional argument for competition authorities in a dialogue with national governments regarding the need to use them as well as formalizing them in the national laws”, stated Deputy Head of FAS.
