19th session of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Competition Law and Policy UN Conference on Trade and Development (IGE UNCTAD)
The 19th session of UNCTAD Intergovernmental Group of Experts (IGE) on Competition Law and Policy took place on July 7-9, 2021 in Geneva (Switzerland).
Andrey Tsyganov, Deputy Head of FAS Russia, was as a key speaker at the session "International experiences and best practices in competition law enforcement against cross-border cartels", presenting a report on the importance of the UNCTAD Working Group on Cross-Border Cartels for the international competition community and putting forward proposals for further directions of its activities.
Moreover, within the framework of the 19th session of IGE UNCTAD, the sessions "Review of capacity-building and technical assistance in competition law and policy", "Competition law, policy and regulation in the digital era" were held, within which reports of member States on these topics were presented, including those prepared by FAS Russia, "Voluntary peer review on competition law and policy: Malawi", as well as "Competition advocacy during and in the aftermath of the COVID-19 crisis", during which antimonopoly response measures in different countries, including Russia, to the pandemic were discussed and the role of competition policy in the recovery of the economy and business activity after the crisis was considered.
Resolution of the 19th session of IGE UNCTAD established provisions for extending the mandate of the UNCTAD Working Group on Cross-Border Cartels, as well as continuing work on updating the mechanisms of international cooperation in the investigation of cross-border cartels.
