On 29 January, students of “Ostankino” Moscow TV and Radio Broadcasting Institute(MITRO) for the first time visited the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia).
Future PR-specialists learned about the work of FAS Department for Public Relations and the main aspects and objectives of this unit of public service.
The students were also interested in the work of the Department for Control over Advertising and Unfair Competition because in the future specialists in their profession will have to directly face various violations in this field. Thus, they paid special attention to the talk given by the Head of FAS Department for Control over Advertising and Unfair Competition, Nikolai Kartashov, about the main violations in advertising: the superlative degree; inappropriate comparison; advertising prohibited goods under the guise of other goods; brand confusion; inaccurate advertising; unlawful use of symbols.
He explained why the Antimonopoly Service has the powers to control advertising, pointing out a ruling of the Constitutional Court, which stated that violating the Law on advertising is directly related to unfair competition.
Nikolai Kartashov pointed out the FAS wins 99% judicial cases on advertising and unfair competition.
