An essay contest for undergraduate and graduate students – “Point of Growth” is completed

The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) announces that the I All-Russian Essay Contest – “Point of Growth” for undergraduate and graduate students marking the 25th anniversary of antimonopoly regulation in Russia is over.

More than 400 undergraduate and graduate students from 36 regions and 8 Republics of Russia took part in the “Point of Growth” contest; they sent individual written works on the issues from the list published on the official contest web-site.

Many universities in Russia supported participation of their students in the contest. The educational institutions and lecturers whose students sent ten and more works for the contest received Letters of gratitude from FAS. The most number of contestants were from Moscow and Vladimir.

The themes of the essays covered rather diverse areas of antimonopoly regulation: from history of developing antimonopoly regulation in Russia and foreign countries to civil control over public and municipal procurement. The most popular themes were “Advertising as an instrument of competitive practices” and “Competition as a driver of economic growth”: accordingly 145 and 93 papers were submitted to the contest.

29 participants were pronounced the winners in seven nominations: “Competition as a driver of economic growth”, “Control over economic concentration:  a reality or a necessity?”; “Impact of natural monopolies upon the state of competition”, “If I were a governor, how would I develop competition”, “Civil control in public procurement”, “Advertising as an instrument of competitive practices”; “Developing antimonopoly law in the world”.

FAS invites the contest winners and those who got the 2nd and the 3rd places for internship at the Central Office and regional Offices.

The I All-Russian Essay Contest – “Point of Growth” completes a series of special projects marking the 25th anniversary of antimonopoly regulation in Russia.

The objective of the “Point of Growth” essay contest – for undergraduate and graduate students is increasing legal and civil culture of university students in the part of competition policy. Strategically, the contest is aimed at professional self-determination of young specialists in the competition law and shaping an understanding in the minds of young people of the importance of observing fthe air competition rules.

FAS expresses gratitude to all contest participants, lecturers, universities and representatives of the Contest Commission who evaluated the papers submitted for the contest.

“We are very grateful that our essay contest – “Point of Growth” became so popular among student youth. We see that participating in such events students have a chance to try themselves in the profession, experience their civil position and state their point of view on competition. The contest is just the beginning of the journey of each future market participant in the competitive environment. We will await new participants, interesting comments and arguments on the new proposed themes in accord with the real state of antimonopoly regulation in Russia”, said the Head of FAS Public Relations Department, Irina Kashunina.

FAS plans to organize the “Point of Growth” essay contest for undergraduate and graduate students on a regular basis.
