Protection of family values and the interests of minor were discussed at a meeting in Cholpon-Ata

The second joint session of the Coordination Council on Advertising, at the Inter-Government Council on Antimonopoly Policy, and the Consultative Council for Protecting Consumer Rights in the CIS member-states took place on 23 June in Cholpon-Ata. The meeting was chaired by Head of Rospotrebnadzor [the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-Being], Anna Popova, and Deputy Head of FAS, Andrey Kashevarov.

Apart from representatives of the Russian Federation, delegates from 8 other CIS countries attended the meeting: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kirgizia, Moldova, Uzbekistan and Ukraine, as well as representatives of the CIS Executive Committee, the Eurasian Economic Commission and business-communities in advertising and consumer rights protection.

Following the event agenda, the participants exchanged opinions on solving several of issues related to consumer rights protection, family values, and the interests of the minors, particularly, in advertising.  For instance, they unanimously emphasized an increasing influence of the digital economy and state-of-the-art technologies upon various fields of people’s life and, in this connection, the need to consider a psychological impact of advertising.

Representatives of the Councils discussed stereotypes for family behaviour of men and women imposed through advertising as well as use of advertising images that insult the standards of morality and ethics.

It is necessary to point out that this is not the first joint work of FAS and Rospotrebnadzor as well as CIS bodies of sectoral cooperation, responsible for antimonopoly policy and consumer rights protection.

Andrey Kashevarov reminded that “back in 2012 the Inter-Government Council on Antimonopoly Policy and the Consultative Council for Protecting Consumer Rights of the CIS member-states signed the Memorandum on Cooperation. Representatives of these two bodies take part in a regular basis in their events and in June 2016 the first joint meeting of the Coordination Council in Advertising at the Inter-Government Council on Antimonopoly Policy and the Consultative Council for Protecting Consumer Rights in the CIS member-states was in Cheboksary, when we once again emphasized that the efforts of our two bodies complement each other and together we are able to solve the most difficult issues”.

At the final, official part of the meeting Stats-Secretary of the State Agency for Antimonopoly Regulation at the Government of the Kirgizia Republic, Aibek Mamyraliev, awarded  Deputy Head of FAS Andrey Kashevarov a Medal of the Kirgizia Republic - “An Outstanding Worker of the Antimonopoly Body”.
