VOLOGDA OFAS DISCUSSED THE PROSPECTS FOR DEVELOPING COMPETITION IN THE TIMBER MARKET

The focus was on supporting development of the regulated timber market

Vologda OFAS held a working meeting with the Vologda Regional Forestry Department and Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection as well as “Vologdaleskhoz” Vologda Regional Forestry Enterprise.

The participants discussed how to improve economic efficiency of the forestry sector of the Vologda region. Particularly, they considered the outcome of a recent meeting involving representatives of “St Petersburg International Mercantile Exchange” JSC, where the key item on the agenda was developing on-exchange trade with timber in the Vologda region as well as pursuing the “Ecology” National project and the National Plan for Developing Competition in the field of natural resources.

According to Deputy Head of Vologda OFAS, Anastasia Rostislavova, “developing exchange trade with timber materials is an element of the national; Competition Development Plan.  To make a decision and launch exchange trading, however, we must hear opinions of all participants on the issue”.  

The working group arrived to a unanimous opinion that it is necessary to organize a Round Table on ‘Developing exchange trade with forestry resources in the Vologda region” as part of the “Russian Forest” International Forestry Forum with representatives of the authorities, economic entities, NGOs and other stakeholders.
