During a working visit to Dagestan, Head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service Igor Artemiev and Head of Dagestan Vladimir Vasiliev discussed the prospects of developing competition in the region.

“I am very glad with our joint work, carried out by the Authority of the Dagestan Republic together with FAS and other bodies to devise the regional Road Map on competition development. It seems to me that it is one of the most advanced in Russia”, emphasized Igor Artemiev.

Head of the Antimonopoly Service expressed big hopes related to development of competition in Dagestan.  For example, he marked the positive changes in terms of spending budgetary funds; it concerns, in particular, the public procurement system, which according to Head of FAS, is getting transparent.

“I see significant prospects in different sectors. Today we discussed housing construction, medicinal drugs supply, petrol prices, as well as development of sport in Dagestan”, says Head of FAS. “Further more, we see how the results achieved can be improved. It should be pointed out that the Government of Dagestan does practically everything by itself. FAS just need to give some assistance so that issues are also resolved at the federal level”.

In his turn, Head of Dagestan Vladimir Vasilievhighlighted the significance of such an assessment: “You and I have said repeatedly that our task in Dagestan is to reach the average level in Russia. And I am very pleased that today you have stated that we have such a possibility”.

“Dagestan is the absolute leader in Russia for two parameters”, informed Igor Artemiev. “In the past year antimonopoly violations committed by the authorities in Dagestan decreased by 70%, while the average figure for Russia for the same period was only 12%. I’ve never seen such results. Also, around 47% of public procurement in Dagestan today go to small and medium companies. Dagestan today gives an example for supporting small and medium business, which is of paramount importance economically”.
