GLOBAL MERGERS – A CHALLENGE FOR BRICS ANTIMONOPOLY BODIES
Russian and foreign experts will meet at the VI BRICS Competition Conference do discuss cooperation in merger analysis
On 19 September 2019, the VI BRICS Competition Conference will include a session on the “Tools of cooperation in considering global mergers”. It will be moderated by Tembinkosi Bonakele, Head of South African Competition Commission.
High economic concentration in the digital economy becomes a new challenged for the antimonopoly bodies in Russia as well as foreign countries.
The session participants will discuss the key issues related to approval of mega-mergers and focus on the tools and mechanisms of international cooperation in considering global mergers.
For example, they will look into the ways to improve decision-making and achieve the most efficient results. The attendees will also evaluate the potential of such aspects of merger analysis as access to information in other jurisdictions, coherence in issuing orders to merger parties, the response speed and much more.
The event agenda also includes the role of international and regional collaboration mechanisms in merger approval, the avenues and opportunities for their development.
Deputy Head of FAS Andrey Tsyganov commented: “International cooperation is becoming increasingly more important in the global, particularly, digital economy. Exchanging experience and information on the pressing issues of antimonopoly regulation and enforcement helps resolve some existing issues and even avoid them. We expect active discussions in the session, putting forward opinions, and elaborating positions of the antimonopoly bodies on our further cooperation”.
