FAS EXPERIENCE IN REGULATING MEDICINE CAN BE EMPLOYED ON THE VETERINARY MARKET
State Duma discussed circulation of veterinary medicines in Russia
On 13 November 2019, the Sub-Committee on circulation of medicine and development of the pharmaceutical and medical industries of the Health Protection Committee of the State Duma and the Agrarian Committee of the State Duma discussed circulation of medicinal drugs for veterinary use. Depuyt Head of FAS Department for Control over the Agro-Industrial Complex, Sergey Vershinin took part in the meeting.
He pointed out that although Russian market of veterinary drugs is characterized by well-developed competition and the current capacities can fully cover the needs of agricultural producers in veterinary medicne, around 60% of the market are caught by foreign-made medicine. According to FAS estimates, however, up to 90% substances use to produce medicines for animal are imported which is a threat to national food security.
The Committees made a decision to deeper look into raw materials supplies to domestic production of veterinary medicine, particularly with help of FAS.
“FAS has already done a lot on regulating the market of medicine. Most of our achievements can be translated to the market of veterinary medicine”, pointed out Sergey Vershinin.
