DOMINANCE ON DIGITAL MARKETS IN THE FOCUS OF ATTENTION IN MEXICO
Abusing dominance by digital giants through practices of imposing their goods and services upon consumers was the main item of the discussion.
Stats-Secretary, Deputy Head of FAS Andrey Tsarikovsky was the keynote speaker at the session on competition on digital markets at a workshop of the Unilateral Conduct Group of the International Competition Network on 4 November 2019.
The session participants not only looked at the theoretical aspects of defining dominance but also gave examples of particular cases, for instance, against such companies as Google and Microsoft, and highlighted various aspects of observing consumer interests and promoting small companies – developers of digital products on the market.
A counselor of the US Federal Trade Commission, Andrew Eimert; Director of Competition Development Department, Australian Competition Commission, Suzan Philip; Head of the Investigation Department, Japan Fair Trade Commission, Yasuhiro Yoshikawa; and Alvaro Ramos from Qualcomm took part in the session.
