RUSSIAN POST HAS VIOLATED THE ANTIMONOPOLY LEGISLATION
The postal service charged a 100% extra for sending parcels from/to hard-to-reach areas.
Earlier, the FAS Russia issued a warning to Russian Post JSC to stop charging such extras.
Due to failure to comply with the warning within the prescribed period, the FAS Russia initiated a case and found the postal service in violation of the Law on Protection of Competition*.
The Russian Post has cancelled charging extras even before the end of the case. The antimonopoly service decided not to issue remedies to eliminate the violation of antimonopoly legislation.
In case of violation of the antimonopoly legislation, fines will be imposed on the service**.
The cancellation of the abovementioned extra charges will allow residents of hard-to-reach areas to use postal services on equal terms with other citizens of the Russian Federation.
* Pursuant to paragraph 6 of part 1 of Article 10 of the Law on Protection of Competition, actions of an economic entity occupying a dominant position, which result in infringement of the interests of other persons, are prohibited, including the unjustified establishment of different prices (tariffs) for the same goods unless otherwise stipulated by the law.
