FAS: THE APPEARANCE OF GOODS ON RETAILER'S «SHELVES» WILL BECOME MORE TRANSPARENT

28-05-2021 | 11:11

The FAS Russia has issued guidelines that will provide transparent and non-discriminatory access of food producers and suppliers to retailers

Today, in the vast majority of cases, the position of food producers in the market is heavily dependent on retailers.

The current version of the Law on Trade does not clarify what information should be published on the retailer’s websites when selecting counterparties1. It is not uncommon for retailers to set the terms of the appearance of goods on the "shelves" for manufacturers and suppliers in a generalized form and thus may mislead them about their real requirements, or restrict access to the necessary information. This can lead to unreasonable refusals to conclude contracts for the supply of food and discrimination against suppliers.

The FAS Russia has issued guidelines which recommend clarifying the types, procedure, methods, composition and terms of information disclosure by retailers when selecting suppliers of food products.
