THE FAS RUSSIA TOGETHER WITH THE BRICS COUNTRIES WILL START A FULL-SCALE RESEARCH OF THE PHARMACEUTICAL MARKET THIS YEAR
This and other topics were discussed by representatives of the competition authorities of the countries of the international association. The FAS Russia was represented by Petr Ivanov, the deputy head of the federal antimonopoly service, and Lesya Davydova, the head of the Department for International Economic Cooperation. The parties summarized the activities of the BRICS Working Groups on the research of competition issues in the pharmaceutical, automotive, food and digital markets in 2020, and also indicated the directions of their further activities.
Thus, in 2021, the FAS Russia together with the International BRICS Competition Law and Policy Center*, will start a full-scale research of the pharmaceutical market. Model recommendations on the application of a waiver of confidentiality in considering transactions of economic concentration in the BRICS countries are also being developed.
"The FAS Russia considers the waiver of confidentiality as one of the most effective tools for international cooperation of antimonopoly authorities in the law enforcement. This mechanism is actively used by the FAS Russia in considering almost all global transactions," said Petr Ivanov.
In conclusion, the participants noted the importance of work accomplished, as well as the timeliness of the implementation of agreements that were reached during the meeting.
* The Center was established in September 2020. Its purpose is to conduct joint research in the field of antimonopoly regulation in socially significant BRICS markets, to provide methodological and expert support for the activities of BRICS working groups as well as to prepare scientific reports and conduct applied researches.
