FAS WILL STRENGTHEN CONTROL OVER SPAM ADVERTISING

22-03-2022 | 12:28

Currently, FAS receives a large number of complaints from citizens about a new type of spam calls and text message from abroad using swap numbers. In this regard, FAS held a meeting with the participation of the largest telecom operators - MTS, Tele2, Megafon, Beeline, dedicated to the issues of joint fight against spam calls.

In order to organize systematic interaction to protect citizens from receiving advertising spam, the Authority and telecom operators are developing a special form for filing a complaint about advertising received without the consent of the subscriber. This form will appear on the website of FAS and telecom operators in the near future.

It helps the subscriber to be able to leave a complaint about the received voice or SMS advertising and promptly get a response from the operator. It is expected that blocking unwanted ads can occur within 72 hours.

“FAS receives a large number of complaints from citizens about spam calls and messages. It is obvious that in order to work more effectively to protect our citizens from unwanted advertising, joint work with mobile operators is necessary. We have agreed on how this service will work”, - said Ms. Karina Taukenova, the Deputy Head of FAS.

This joint work will be a continuation of the anti-spam project, which FAS has been implementing with telecom operators since the signing of the memorandum.

Today two telecom operators - MTS and MegaFon provide their subscribers with a free service for blocking spam calls, including robotic calls. In total, 21.4 million people used the service. Since the beginning of the functioning of the service, 274 million spam calls have been detected. Two other telecom operators T2 MOBILE and VimpelCom will launch a free anti-spam service for their subscribers in the second quarter of 2022.
