FAS CONDUCTS CARTEL INSPECTIONS OF 5 LARGEST SUGAR DISTRIBUTORS
Unscheduled inspections are carried out in connection with a sudden increase in sugar prices, as well as its reduction in retail chains.
As part of the ongoing actions, FAS will assess the pricing of sugar by these organizations, as well as study the reasons for possible unjustified price increases and product reductions on the market. Besides, the antimonopoly authority will analyze the chain of sugar sales from the manufacturer to the retailer.
If there is a violation of the Law on Protection of Competition in the actions of inspected entities, an antimonopoly case will be initiated, and companies may face a turnover fine of up to 15% of annual revenue.
The final conclusions about the presence or absence of violations of the antimonopoly legislation in the actions of the audited persons will be made by the Authority based on the results of the inspection measures, as well as the analysis of all the information received.
Earlier, FAS conducted unscheduled on-site inspections against the largest producers, the sugar packer and the association.
