FAS RUSSIA ISSUED A WARNING TO GOOGLE LLC

04-07-2022 | 16:22

The company imposes unfavorable terms of the contract on mobile application developers

FAS Russia found that Google LLC, which owns and operates the app store Google Play, obliged developers distributing paid applications through the platform to use exclusively the Google payment system.

The ban on the use of third-party payment systems is enshrined in the Developer Program Policy. In case of violation, the application can be removed from the site or the possibility of updating it is blocked.

The actions of Google LLC contain signs of abuse of dominant position*, in connection with which FAS Russia issued a warning to the company. The company must fulfill it within a month. In case of its non-fulfillment, FAS Russia has the right to initiate a case on violation of antimonopoly legislation.

* Paragraph 3 of the Part 1 of the Article 10 of the Law on Protection of Competition
