FAS RUSSIA SUMMED UP RESULTS OF THE EXCHANGE TRADE OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS IN 2022

The launch of trading on the Moscow Stock Exchange with a settlement futures contract for the wheat stock index calculated on the results of commodity auctions has become a key one

Such a contract, on the one hand, avoids the risks associated with the physical delivery of goods, on the other hand, creates price benchmarks for grain market participants in real time.

Since the start of trading, futures transactions have already been concluded by more than 1 thousand customers, including individuals, the total trading volume exceeded 100 million rubles.

In addition, such a type of exchange trading as commodity auctions has been further developed on the National Commodity Exchange. In 2022, more than 400 auctions were held, more than 300 companies participated in such auctions, the trading volume amounted to about 0.85 million tons of agricultural products. The customers of such auctions are companies belonging to large agricultural holdings, such as UGC, Rusagro, EFKO, Dominant.

For the first time, not only wheat, but also oilseeds (sunflower, soy, linen) were sold at commodity auctions. The expansion of the nomenclature of agricultural products traded at commodity auctions in the future will provide the opportunity to launch futures contracts for other crops besides wheat.

The volume of over-the-counter transactions registered on the exchange in 2022 in relation to agricultural products made it possible to ensure the formation of over-the-counter price indices for sugar, cereals and sunflower oil on a regular basis.
