FAS HAS LAUNCHED AN INVESTIGATION ON INCREASE IN CELLULAR TARIFFS BY MEGAFON AND TELE 2

30-12-2022 | 11:17

If the authority determines that the next increase in tariffs is unjustified, the it has the right to initiate an antimonopoly case

In December the authority received appeals from citizens regarding the cost increase of mobile communication tariffs of Megafon and Tele2 operators.

At the same time, PJSC Megafon did not inform the authority in accordance with the established procedure about the upcoming cost increase. Currently, FAS Russia has sent a corresponding request to the operator and launched an investigation. If the Authority determines that the next increase in Megafon's tariffs is unjustified, it has the right to initiate an antimonopoly case.

Recall that on December 27, 2022, the authority has already found the operator guilty of violating antimonopoly legislation and ordered to reduce the tariffs unreasonably increased in May of this year.

The authority made a similar decision regarding MTS in October 2022. Currently, FAS Russia, within the framework of monitoring the execution of the order issued to the operator, is conducting an administrative investigation.

In addition, the authority analyzes the economic feasibility of increasing the cost of tariffs by the Tele2 operator. LLC "T2 Mobile" notified FAS about the increase in tariffs for communication services from 12.30.2022. The operator plans to increase tariffs, the cost of which has not changed before, as well as tariff plans, the cost of which has already changed in 2022. According to the results of the analysis conducted by the authority, the increase in previously unchanged tariffs does not exceed the consumer price index since the beginning of this year and is justified.

FAS Russia will analyze the increase in tariff plans, the cost of which has already been increased in 2022. In case of detection of signs of violation of antimonopoly legislation in the actions of the telecom operator, the authority will also take measures of antimonopoly response. Recall that in December last year, the operator has already reduced the cost of tariffs after the remedies.

FAS Russia will continue to monitor changes in prices for communication services.
