FAS: APPLE PAID AN ANTIMONOPOLY FINE OF 906 MILLION RUB

The funds have already been received by the budget of the Russian Federation

Recall that in 2020, FAS Russia recognized Apple as violating antimonopoly legislation in a case that was initiated at the request of Kaspersky Lab, and issued remedies to eliminate violations.

It was found that Apple abused its dominant position in the market for distribution of mobile applications on the iOS operating system by performing a series of sequential actions that led to the provision of competitive advantages to its own products and at the same time worsening the conditions for the distribution of competitors' products – parental control applications.

The company appealed the decision and the order of the authority, as well as the decision to impose a fine of 906,299,392 rubles in court. However, in 2022 and 2023, the courts of three instances supported the position of FAS Russia, after which the company complied with the ruling.

At the end of 2022, Apple adopted an additional agreement to the DPLA (license agreement with developers), which excludes the application of the non-admission clause for Russian developers. The changes are effective from October 21, 2022. In addition, Apple has added the Screen Time API application programming interface for parental control applications to the next version of the iOS 15 operating system.

On February 22, 2023, funds in the amount of 906 million rubles were received by the budget of the Russian Federation.
