FAS and Italy Competition Authority strengthen cooperation
On 19 January 2016, Stats–Secretary, Deputy Head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia), Andrey Tsarikovskiy, had a meeting with Head of Italy Competition AuthorityGiovanni Pitruzzella.
The parties discussed priorities of the work of the antimonopoly bodies in Italy and Russia in the field of competition policy, the latest changes in the national legislations and the most high-profile cases investigated by the regulators in 2016.
“For the Russian antimonopoly authority the past year was a year of cases against the largest international corporations, operating mainly in information technologies, as well as cartel cases in the pharmaceutical sector, construction and transport”, emphasized Andrey Tsarikovskiy. “Cooperation with the European colleagues and their cases helped us conduct our investigations”.
FAS proposed to consider intellectual rights protection and competition support in the industry, particularly, forced licensing, at the 10th session of the joint Working Group on Pharmaceutics in March 2017. Arrangements were reached to organize a Round Table at the end of March 2017 for Italian business, involving Heads of Italian and Russian competition authorities, at the Italian Embassy in Moscow.
Head of FAS Department for International Economic Cooperation, Lesya Davydova, and representatives of Italy Competition Authority also attended the meeting.
FAS and Italy Competition Authority have been in close cooperation since 2000. The antimonopoly bodies co-chair Working Group on Pharmaceutics. In 2016 representatives of Italy Competition Authority took part in the Competition Week in Russia.
