APEC Working Group on Competition Policy has a session in Vietnam
APEC Working Group on Competition Policy was in session on 26 February 2017 inNha Trang(Vietnam) under the frame of a senior officials meeting at the Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum
Reports were presented on completed APEC projects, including training courses on economic analysis, conduct of investigations and evaluation of competition authority performance. APEC Secretariat gave information on the current and future projects and outlined the priorities for 2017, particularly, enhancing efficiency of APEC efforts in the field of competition policy, conducting surveys on the issues of interest for APEC economies, and an increased number of self-financed projects. Representatives of the competition authorities from Peru, Papua New Guinea and Thailand put forward proposals on APEC training projects. A representative of Taiwan competition authority supplied information on developing APEC database on competition law and policy.
Then reports were given on the latest changes and trends in developing competition policy in APEC economies. Anna Pozdnyakova, Deputy Department Head, Head of the Unit of International Information Communications, FAS Department for International Economic Cooperation, discussed development of competition policy and law in the Russian Federation. She provided information about the changes to Russian antimonopoly law under the frame of the “forth antimonopoly package” and the “anti-crisis package” that came into force in 2016. The novelties are designed to reduce the burden upon business, state participation in the economy, as well as adjust the Russian competition law in line with the best international practices. Participants also learned about drafting the National Competition Development Plan in Russia.
