FAS proposes to include activities of the Working Group of BRICS competition authorities in BRICS action plan
FAS hosted a meeting of BRICS competition authorities
The parties discussed FAS initiative to expand cooperation between competition authorities of BRICS countries and interactions under the frame of the Working Groups on pharmaceuticals, food products and car manufacturing.
Stat-Secretary, Deputy Head of FAS Andrey Tsarikovskiy pointed out: “Cooperation between BRICS countries has already reached a working stage. The Working Groups on various social-and-economic issues have become FAS main mechanism of interaction with the colleagues from the competition authorities”.
Deputy Head of FAS informed about the initiative of Russian competition authority to include the timed action plan of BRICS Working Group into the overall BRICS action plan for 2017. Representatives of the competition authorities from Brazil, China, South Africa and India supported the proposal.
Participants looked at the issue of developing tools to enhance efficiency of cooperation between the antimonopoly authorities across the world. “The idea was first announced by FAS at UNCTAD conference in October 2016. We are grateful to our colleagues who supported the initiative and the importance of strengthening cooperation between competition authorities in the course of case investigations with the help of the tools proposed by FAS”, said Head of FAS Department for International Economic Cooperation Lesya Davydova. “We will appreciate it if BRICS competition authorities will continue supporting this initiative”.
Andrey Tsarikovskiy invited BRICS representatives to take part in St Petersburg International Legal Forum that will offer a global dialogue about the antimonopoly practices of the competition authorities in the world.
