BRICS Coordination Committee on antimonopoly policy
The successful interaction of the competition authorities in the BRICS format requires an effective governing body.
In accordance with paragraph 3 of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of competition law and policy of the BRICS countries, in order to ensure proper information exchange between the BRICS Competition Authorities, in September 2016, the BRICS Coordination Committee on antimonopoly policy was established.
The creation of such a working body marked the beginning of the next important stage in the development of cooperation between the BRICS Competition Authorities.
The main objectives of the BRICS Coordination Committee are to identify areas of joint activity with the designation of specific topics of mutual interest, to promote joint initiatives, to identify similar urgent problems of competition development in socially significant markets, to form agendas and sum up the work of the BRICS Working Groups for research on competition issues in socially important markets, identify plans for joint activities of the BRICS competition authorities.
The Coordination Committee consists of heads or deputy heads of all BRICS competition authorities. To maintain regular contacts within the Coordination Committee and to prepare the Coordination Committee meetings, a contact group of BRICS competition authorities operates at the expert level.
