Created in May 2016 in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of competition law and policy of the BRICS countries.
Main objectives:
- analysis of the mechanism of the global food chain;
- analysis of the issues faced by the BRICS countries caused by the globalization of supply chains and the globalization of production in the food industry;
- combating monopolization and inequality of market power in global food chains;
- study of technological changes affecting the relationship between the actors involved in the process of food production;
- study on the protection of intellectual property rights for competitive strategies of enterprises within the global food chain.
Priority issues for study:
- questions of the methodology for determining the food market / market analysis;
- issues of protecting intellectual property rights within the global food chain;
- questions on new technological forms of production and supply of products and their legitimacy;
- issues related to intellectual property law, competition law and global food chains;
- issues of economic concentration of world food markets;
- issues of changing methodological approaches to the consideration of global M&As in the seed market;
- issues of the impact of transactions on the potential for innovative development, on the work of global food chains and on the interests of agricultural producers;
- issues related to new challenges for antimonopoly authorities: agrogenetics and food chains;
- issues related to the detection and suppression of violations of antimonopoly legislation in food markets.
Action Plan:
In the period from 2016 to 2017, the Report on the state of competition in the seed market in the BRICS countries was being prepared.
In 2017, the Report on the state of competition in the seed market in the BRICS countries was presented.
Meetings of the Working Group are held regularly once or twice a year. Regular contacts are also held in the format of calls, videoconferences, webinars, consultations, meetings.
