Competition Law Department is opened in South Ural State University
In the new academic year students of the Law Institute of South Ural State Universitystarted classes at the Department of “Business, Competition and Environmental Law” established upon a joint initiative of the university and the Antimonopoly Service.
The Department that replaced the previous Department of Business and Commercial Law reflects the modern realities of the national and world economies and the demand of the society to train specialists in those areas.
FAS and South Ural State University have been cooperating for over 15 years on the basis of the Department of Business and Commercial Law. For instance, the staff of Chelyabinsk OFAS has been lecturing students on competition law since 2000.
The new Department is chaired by Valentina Kvanina, who has an advanced doctorate degree in Law. Lecturers, along with university personnel, will include representatives of Chelyabinsk OFAS, particular, Anna Kozlova, the Head of the regional antimonopoly body.
Anna Kozlova will share with students theoretical and, what is undoubtedly very important and interesting for future lawyers, practical knowledge on control over compliance with the antimonopoly law, the law on advertising, control over public and municipal procurement and a new area in the work of the Antimonopoly Service – tariff regulation.
According to the Head of Chelyabinsk OFAS, Anna Kozlova: “The Department will facilitate high-quality ongoing work on academic research in antimonopoly law, help organize research-to-practice conferences on competition law and fruitfully interact with the specialists from the regional antimonopoly body on improving the antimonopoly policy.
Facilitating research work in the field of competition law traditionally is an important area of FAS efforts. Integrating those fields will be conducive to training highly qualified university graduates who will clearly understand the powers and functions of the competition authority and, as a consequence, the most efficient task-solving should they choose a career with the Antimonopoly Service”.
“Cooperation between Chelyabinsk OFAS and South Ural State University with employment of the best research practices will also make a contribution in developing competition in the Chelyabinsk region”, added Anna Kozlova.
