FAS RUSSIA SHALL VERIFY THE REASON FOR CONGESTION ON RAILWAYS IN KUZBASS
Following media reports aboutcongestion withmore than 30,000 empty cars on West-Siberian Railway, the antimonopoly authority will check whether any collusion is involved
According to the press, a traffic jam from more than 32,000 – 33,000 empty cars was formed at the approaches to Kuzbass and a chain reaction led to 10% stoppage across the railway network in total.
On 23 - 25 January, “Russian Railways” OJSC limited registration of empty gondola-cars on West-Siberian Railway from all stations.
According to industry representatives, the situation was provoked by bad weather conditions affecting the unloading speed in ports in the Far East and the south as well as high rates for providing cars and a long holiday period.
FAS will verify the circumstances resulted in the congestion in Kuzbass and will conclude whether actions of “Russian Railways” OJSC and rolling stock operators are justified.
