FAS APPROVED THE FORTUM’S DEAL FOR UNIPER SE
Based on the decision of the Government Commission for Control over Foreign Investments, FAS preapproved Finland company “Fortum” of acquiring up to 50% shares of German “Uniper SE”.
“This is a very large international deal for approximately US$ 4 billion”, said Head of FAS Igor Artemiev. “We‘d like to specially point out that “Fortum” plans a serious investment programme in Russia: by 2023 the company intends to invest 9 billion RUB to replace and maintain heating networks, 10 billion RUB – to adjust the assets in line with the law, 8 billion RUB – to replace and maintain generating and other equipment. The experience of previous interaction with the Finnish company proved that “Fortum” is truly interested in technological and financial development of its Russian assets, enhancing efficiency in Russian entities. Under such circumstances foreign capital becomes a tool for developing competition in Russia”.
