GOOGLE LLC HAS COMPLIED WITH THE WARNING OF FAS RUSSIA

07-09-2022 | 11:43

After analyzing the company's actions, FAS Russia found that Google had eliminated signs of violation of antimonopoly legislation

It should be reminded that in July 2022, FAS Russia found that Google LLC, which owns and operates the Google Play app store, obliged developers distributing paid applications through the platform to use exclusively the Google payment system.

The actions of the company contained signs of abuse of a dominant position*, in connection with which FAS Russia issued a warning to the company.

In August, Google announced that it had made changes to the Developer Program Policy and removed ban to use third-party payment systems.

FAS Russia analyzed the company's actions. One of the warning points, in addition to excluding the prohibition of alternative payment methods, was to properly inform developers about such changes. Under results of the analysis, FAS Russia concluded that the company has fulfilled the warning.

Google LLC has eliminated restrictions on payments for application developers from Russia. Previously, the ability to pay for downloading paid applications, as well as for access to functions and services (for example, subscription payments), was provided only through the Google Play internal payment system. Otherwise, the company would not allow the application in its catalog. Now developers in Russia can use alternative payment methods.
