The company has to pay it for abuse of dominant position

The Ninth Arbitration Court of Appeal recognized as legal the ruling and remedies of FAS Russia in relation to Apple Inc, as well as the decision to impose a fine in the amount of 1.1 billion rubles.

Let us recall that in July 2022, FAS Russia completed its consideration of the antimonopoly case against Apple. The authority established that the company forced Russian iOS application developers to use the company’s payment instrument in their applications.

App Store rules also prohibited developers from informing in-app customers about the possibility of paying for purchases outside the App Store and using alternative payment methods. The company demanded that developers remove links to their Internet resources and change the functionality of the application so that the registration form did not lead to external sites. Otherwise, the company would not allow the application to be placed on the App Store.

As a result of the administrative investigation, FAS Russia fined Apple 1,177,988,700 rubles (more than 17 million US dollars) for violating antimonopoly legislation.
