FAS RUSSIA TOOK PART IN THE AFRICAN COMPETITION FORUM

Representative of the authority made a presentation on the role of competition policy in achieving the goals of sustainable development and implementation of the national project "Ecology"

African Competition Forum (ACF) Biannual Conference is the largest international event in the field of antimonopoly regulation in the African region. It includes 30 competition authorities of African countries and 4 supranational bodies, including the Competition Commission of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).

In 2023, the Conference was held in Serekunda (The Gambia). The agenda of the Conference included the issues of combating anticompetitive practices of transnational corporations, the role of competition in ensuring food security, suppression of cartels, antimonopoly regulation and sustainable development.

Representative of FAS Russia spoke about the development of competition in the Russian Federation, as well as the key tasks of the national project "Ecology", including reducing the volume of municipal solid waste (MSW) disposal, reducing the level of pollutants into the atmosphere, cleaning water bodies and developing a system of specially protected natural territories.

The role of FAS Russia as a regulator in the implementation of the national project is to ensure control over tariffs for services for the treatment of MSW, analysis of relevant markets for signs of anticompetitive agreements and the formation of an industry regulatory framework.

During the conference, meetings were held with participants representing the competition authorities of The Gambia, South Africa, Angola, Ghana, Senegal, Cape Verde, Kenya, Tanzania, Morocco, Nigeria. The parties discussed in detail the issues of further development of cooperation between antimonopoly regulators of Russia and African countries, which was initiated within the framework of the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum in St. Petersburg in July 2023.

It should be reminded that in July 2023, the Second Summit of the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum was held in St. Petersburg. Within the framework of the meeting, negotiations were held between the Head of FAS Russia Maxim Shaskolsky and representatives of the competition agencies of South Africa, Egypt, Tunisia and the The Gambia.
