The antimonopoly body outlined some measures for Rospatent to support competition among medicinal drug manufacturers
Representatives of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) took part in the Round Table on "Patenting Medicinal Drugs and Treatment Methods: Observing the Balance of Interests" organized by the Federal Intellectual Property Service (Rospatent). Participants discussed a number of pressing issues in legal protection of pharmaceutical inventions.
FAS representatives focused on some aspects of patenting medicinal drugs, when finding solutions is closely related to the state of competition in the pharmaceutical industry and directly affects drug supply to the population.
As a result of the Round Table it was decided to continue discussing patenting medicinal drugs under the frame of interdepartmental cooperation between the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Health Care, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Federal Service for Health Care Supervision [Roszdravnadzor], the Federal Intellectual Property Service [Rospatent], FAS Russia and "Skolkovo" Innovation Centre and form a Working Group to devise proposals on improving medicinal drug circulation based on efficient use of intellectual property rights.
"Supplying medicinal drugs to the population is a very pressing issue that requires immediate decisions. We hope to continue discussing intellectual rights protection and forced licensing of drug manufacturing in the format of interdepartmental cooperation between federal bodies with participation of "Skolkovo" Centre, pointed out Deputy Head of DAS Andrey Kashevarov.
