Russian and Tajik antimonopoly bodies are reinforcing cooperation in competition policy

On 26 January 2017, Deputy Head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS Russia) Sergey Puzyrevskiy had a meeting with Head of State Antimonopoly Service at the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Saadi Kodirzoda.

Sergey Puzyrevskiyinformed his Tajik colleagues about the latest changes in the antimonopoly and tariff regulation. Deputy Head of FAS outlined the state of tariff regulation in Russia and the efforts undertaken to solve the pressing issues. He pointed out that tariff regulation decision-making shall factor in some important aspects of evaluating efficiency of the current, investment as well as financial-and-economic operations of companies.

Sergey Puzyrevskiy discussedthe work of the Interstate Council on Antimonopoly Policy (ICAP) and the Headquarters for Joint Investigations of Violations of the Antimonopoly Law of the CIS Member-States (the Headquarters) at ICAP, particularly, approving the Report “On developing competition policy and the role of antimonopoly bodies in solving social-and-economic issues (Experience of the Russian Federation)” by the CIS Economic Council.

Saadi Kodirzoda informed representatives of the Russian antimonopoly bodies on adopting the law that assigns the powers to regulate the banking sector to the Antimonopoly Service of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Head of Tajikistan antimonopoly body also discussed the efforts on regulating such important spheres such as construction and construction materials, oil, mobile communications and pharmaceuticals.

Sergey Puzyrevskiyemphasized that FAS is ready to assist in transferring experience on antimonopoly regulation of the above markets and forward the necessary analytical information.

The parties made a decision to conclude an inter-departmental Memorandum of Understanding in the filed of competition policy, which will be drafted in the near future.

Developing cooperation between the antimonopoly bodies of Russia and Tajikistan was put on the agenda of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Tajikistan on 27 January 2017 inDushanbe, where a FAS delegation participated.
