On 31 May 2017, Head of FAS Igor Artemiev had a telephone conversation with Director of UNCTAD Division on International Trade in Goods, Services and Commodities, Guillermo Valles. The parties discussed cooperation between FAS and UNCTAD, particularly, preparation to the forthcoming 16th session of UNCTAD International Group of Experts (IGE) on Competition Law and Policy in Geneva (Switzerland) on 5 - 7 July 2017.
The 16th IGE UNCTAD session will include a Round Table on strengthening international cooperation in investigations of cross-border cases: tools and procedures; the key speaker will be Head of FAS Igor Artemiev. The issue is put on IGE UNCTAD agenda upon a FAS initiative in October 2016.
Igor Artemiev and Guillermo Valles discussed some issues of considering and refining the draft Toolkit on international cooperation between competition authorities to counter restrictive business practices of large transnational corporations devised by FAS. The Toolkit is now at the stage of public consultations. The draft Toolkit also will be analyzed at the 16th IGE UNCTAD session.
The parties also reached arrangements to form a UNCTAD Ad hoc Group to refine the draft Toolkit. It is expected that the Group will start working after the 16th IGE UNCTAD session.
